In this cut-throat era of smartphones, we all know about the brands standing out in the crowd. POCO is one of those brands, earlier known as POCOfone or POCO by Xiaomi. Back in 2018, POCO was originally a sub-brand owned by the Chinese electronics company, Xiaomi Corporation. Later on, it became an independent company globally. Since the major success for the POCO F1 as the flagship killer of the time, in the mid-range segment of mobile phones, POCO never disappointed being one of the top options to buy. In recent times, the POCO F3 GT topped the list of gaming smartphones. It was launched on 23rd July 2021 and surpassed other gaming smartphones in the flagship segment. This flagship killer is a rebranded Redmi K40 Gaming edition that was launched in China back in April. ‘Maglev triggers’ and a 120 Hz refresh rate panel make the mobile console attractive to gamers.
Budget-Friendly
Do we, regular users or power users, really need to spend Rs. 60,000 or 80,000 or 1 lakh for a phone? The answer is, no. In sub-Rs. 30,000 segments, there are much better options. If we look over the gaming segment, the POCO F3 GT has taken over the territory. It is highly budget-friendly for gamers and it is an ideal flagship killer with premium features. This particular phone has two variants: 128 GB internal storage with 6 GB RAM which is priced for Rs. 28,999 and another variant with 256 GB internal storage and 8 GB RAM which is priced for Rs. 30,999.
Storage and Performance
The POCO F3 GT is one of the first in the segment of mid-range smartphones that are powered by the Dimensity 1200 Soc, MediaTek's latest flagship chipset. It is built on a 6nm processor. This processor features eight cores consisting of one Ultra Arm Cortex-A78 core running at 3GHz along with another three Arm Cortex-A78 Super cores at 2.6GHz. There are also four Arm Cortex-A55 cores running at 2GHz. The graphical performance of the device is controlled by the Mali-G77 MC9 GPU. As well as improved performance, POCO F3 GT includes 128GB of inbuilt UFS 3.1 storage that speeds up games and applications' launch time. Among the features, you can enjoy ample inbuilt storage of 128GB for your files, including videos, audios, images, documents, etc. Despite this, there is no additional storage slot on the phone.
Camera Performance
POCO F3 GT features three cameras, among which are a 64 MP primary camera, an ultra-wide lens of 8 MP, and a 2MP macro cam. However, the 64 MP primary is not optimized well. So, in the case of daytime pictures, high dynamic range processing lags. On comparing it with other devices in this segment like One Plus Nord 2, if we click an image using POCO F3 GT, we don’t get that much detail in the shadows of the image and low light performance is not that satisfying as well. But the front camera is better than other phones in this price range and the wide-angle camera also clicks good images that are well detailed with a high dynamic range.
Display Features
Featuring a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 20:9, POCO F3 GT features an excellent display. Touch is a breeze thanks to a 120Hz refresh rate panel, and the visuals are crisp thanks to a 395 PPI pixel density. Additionally, HDR10+ support ensures vivid colors and high-contrast pictures on the display. The screen is completely bezel-less, with Corning Gorilla Glass v5 protection that makes it impact-proof. With an IP53 rating, the phone is splashproof.
Construct and Design
POCO F3 GT competes with other devices in this segment such as the One Plus Nord 2, which has a very minimalistic design, whereas the design of this phone is just what a gaming device needs to be with a very bold design. It is glass built and gives you a metallic body design, surpassing other phones in the segment.
Connectivity and Other Features
In terms of connectivity features, POCO F3 GT supports 4G VoLTE, 5G, and Wi-Fi 802.11, b/g/n, Bluetooth v5.1, GPS with A-GPS, NFC, USB charging. It has dual Dolby Atmos stereo speakers which are loud and give you a much thinner and sharper sound than One Plus Nord 2. It has an IR (Infra-red) blaster which helps you operate many devices using remotes, like, TV or AC. It does not have a headphone jack port but in-box a type C to 3.5 mm jack Audio Connector is provided. With its 67W fast charging feature, your phone can be fully charged from 0 to 50% in 15 minutes.
Competitive Analysis and Competitors
POCO F3 GT in the price segment is a great competition to One Plus Nord 2 5G and One Plus Nord CE 5G. One Plus Nord 2 5G price starts at Rs. 29,999, whereas POCO F3 GT price starts at Rs. 28,999, which is cheaper and keeps POCO in the front seat. One Plus will give you a much cleaner and optimized software experience than MIUI in this phone. POCO F3 GT also falls behind in camera performance, One-Plus Nord 2 is much better in low light performance than POCO F3 GT and gives much sharper, detailed, and well-processed images.
One Plus Nord 2 has a minimal front camera and wide-angle camera performance, whereas the POCO F3 GT is much better in that part. The latter also provides a 120 Hz refresh rate AMOLED display panel whereas One Plus Nord 2 gives a 90 Hz refresh rate AMOLED display panel, both of the panels are top-notch and gives true color saturation and adjustments. As both devices use the same Dimensity 1200 SoC, both have similar CPU performance.
Winding up, POCO F3 GT is indeed a better gaming device right now and it is a true value for money phone. It has a better-built quality and the design is not so boring. Maybe One Plus Nord 2 is minimal but at any point, this phone is, after all, a gaming phone and it comes with a metal frame, has magnetic triggers which you can nab in different games. As a whole, the POCO F3 GT by performance is the best phone right now and if you want to appeal to the gamer inside you, looking twice is not an option to buy this phone.
